Palette and Styling trends for 2020

Inspired by Nature

Being inspired by nature is the biggest theme in the interior design world – the new warm neutrals use of natural materials and our obsession with plants – authentic craftmanship and a need for comfort in these difficult times.

Dulux colour of the year Tranquil Dawn brings a fresh energy – full of positivity it can be used as a neutral. The soft green gives a sense of calm to create tranquil spaces perfect for home offices, sharing food or restful sleep. Paired with natural materials – wood, rattan, bamboo and lots of revitalising plants, it is suitable for any room.

New Neutrals

The New Neutrals – from cream, greige and sand through to earthy tones of terracotta, clay and rust, we are embracing all things natural. The Nordic Retreat theme of stripped back spare styling with understated comfort is perfect for unfussy, natural, relaxed and calming interiors. Laying of textures is important – wools, boucle, knits and sheepskin bring a sense of cosiness. Included in this is a Mojave desert theme with nude and charcoal – bold, minimal softened with layers of texture, wall hangings and earthenware accessories.

Global Craftsmanship

We are also embracing global craftsmanship  - all things authentically hand crafted with patterned ikats, Indian block prints, paisley and handwoven rugs. This nomadic trend is blended with natural pigments – pinks, terracottas, burnt umbers and russet tones in textiles, tiles and wall colours. The rich earth tones are also part of a Japanese trend with the revival of structured rattan and cane furniture offset with rich russet tones, bird motifs and rich silks and velvets. This autumnal feel is being loved all year round.

Blue and Mustard

Our love of blue never fades and this years Classic Blue is well placed to bring glamour to the blue, brass and mustard trend. Deco and even 70’s retro influences bring sophisticated elegance, sharp lines, curves and sexy opulence. Rich blue velvets are paired with metallic touches of brass, gold and bronze.

Chinoisery Themes

The soft greens mentioned above are paired beautifully with dusty pinks that also blend with the Chinoisery themes still ongoing. Embroideries, bird motifs, blossom detailing bring an intreguing Eastern exoticism. Soft and pastel in nature this is a sumptuous look for the romantic personality – beautiful bedrooms and inviting sitting rooms.
